John Rahim stages Solo music exhibition at Gallery 1885 from 21st July to 7th August 2008

Music photographer John Rahim is staging a solo exhibition from the 21st of July to the 7th of August at Gallery 1885, which is housed in The Camera Club, London’s oldest photographic institution, in Kennington, South London.

The exhibition contains a selection of his pictures taken over the last year and includes photos of artists such as Pete Doherty from Babyshambles, Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, The Kooks, Editors and REM, amongst others. Many of the photographs have appeared in publications ranging from the Guardian to The Daily Mail.

Rahim has been taking photos since the mid 1980’s, and in his teenage years documented the punk and new wave scene in his home town of Glasgow. In 1985 he joined indie guitar band “The Wake” who were signed to the Manchester-based Factory Records label. Between 1985 and 1988 the band toured extensively with label mates New Order and The Happy Mondays, and recorded their critically acclaimed album “Here Comes Everybody”. In 1988 Rahim left the band and moved to London, spending the next ten years as a talent scout and A&R man for various record labels, including London Records and Sony Music Entertainment.

In 2000 he went back into photography and, following his passion for music, became a freelance music photographer. He is represented by the leading picture agency Rex Features and also has various personal clients including Gibson Guitars.

In 2007 he launched the extremely popular music blog Rahimlive.com, which contains a selection of pictures from over 100 live performances. The site receives over 120,000 hits per month, making it one of the most popular blogs in its genre.
