The last time I saw KT Tunstall was back in November of last year at The Roundhouse in North London. Although KT already had at that point considerable success she came across as slightly nervous and joked that the venue was “huge” and “dead posh”. Bearing in mind her thoughts of The Roundhouse I was expecting and even more nervous performance at the Hammersmith Apollo which is steeped in history and is one of the most prestigious concert venues in the Capital.
Even though I only watched three sounds before being ushered out KT’s performance was excellent. In addition to being musically very confident KT put on an impressive show and looked and sounded completely at home in a much larger venue. Since her initial success three years ago the UK music scene has produced some very talented female singer songwriters who have gained success through their songwriting ability and individualism rather than their looks or coverage in trashy lads mags. Whilst not wanting to put down Adele, Duffy, Kate Nash, Joss Stone or Amy McDonald in my opinion KT outshines all of these in terms of musical depth and appeal. Her last album “Drastic Fantastic” is less immediate than her debut “Eye to the Telescope” however is a real grower and in my opinion better record.
