It’s amazing what a TV performance on Joolz Holland can do for your career. Six months ago SS was playing tiny underground acoustic venues now the excitement and press coverage means that SS can sell out venues like the Astoria and perform live duets with KT Tunstall. In all seriousness SS is a bit of a phenomenon, anyone who plays blues with an old beat up guitar with three strings, yes I said THREE, is well over 50, and looks like an extra from a Jack Daniels advert is obviously doing something right. I think the secret of his success comes down to his authenticity, SS has obviously lived a tough life and probably has been making the same kind of Southern Blues for the past 20 years or so. The fact that he is real deal makes him, and his music much more endearing. SS has lived the life. He left his family home at the age of 13, lived as a tramp working now and again as a farm and carnival worker. His songs come from the heart and the performance at the Astoria was not just passionate however quite humbeling. His last album “Dog House Blues” is very good and well worth picking up if you are looking for something different.
