I can’t remember when I have experienced such excitement around a new band who have done comparatively so little. When I first read about the Ting Tings in the summer of last year they had been together for less than six months however still managed to a secure a slot at Glastonbury. I was highly sceptical and the press coverage surrounding them in the last six months did little to convinve me that they were anything other than a hyped up art school duo with little musical substance and a one failed record deal behind them. I was though looking forward to their debut London headlining show at the trendy bar cum restaurant in Hoxton Square and was not expecting much. I have to say I was very surprised and believe that Katie (the lead singer and guitarist) has star quality and heaps of stage presence. The band are incredibly tight have some catchy songs. They also have the swagger and confidence of a band who have been around for years. I am sure that that their live performances will improve and anyone intending to see The Cribs in the NME new bands tour should make the effort to arrive early and catch them live. Maybe this time they may just live up to the hype. I have added the video to their debut major label single ” Great DJ” which is released on Columbia/Sony Music.
